For Liebherr and in partnership with the POOLgroup we achieved a technical feat at MINExpo 2024 in Las Vegas: the intercontinental remote control of a 70 metric ton heavy-duty machine. The challenge was to bridge a 9,500 km connection between the booth in the US and a quarry in Zams, Austria. The goal was to operate the PR 776 bulldozer live via joystick from the booth. This required the synchronous transmission of control signals, intercom and high-resolution video signals in real time.
The fact that this was no fluke was demonstrated by the tremendous reliability of our infrastructure: Four scheduled live broadcasts were conducted each day of the trade show. Our task was to provide the network infrastructure that kept this intercontinental connection stable and low-latency. We ensured that the joystick commands and feedback from the live cameras reached the operator in Las Vegas with a latency of less than one second. As a result Liebherr was able to impressively and flawlessly demonstrate its innovative remote-control technology to an international audience of industry professionals at a booth spanning hundreds of square meters. This case study demonstrates our core expertise in implementing the most complex global, latency-critical live applications.
